Day 2 Sandown to Blackgang Chine 11 miles

Another warm sunny day. Back to Sandown on the bus via a different route this time. We managed to see a lot of the interior of the island by bus, mostly sitting upstairs at the front so we had a good view.
Our day began with a walk along the seafront from Sandown to Shanklin passing many beach huts with quirky names.
Sandown Pier

Margaret remembered Shanklin having a pier but it was destroyed in the storm of 1987 and never repaired.

At the far end of the promenade along the beach is a well hidden pub 'The Fisherman's Cottage' and beyond that the steps up to the cliff top.

After a coffee stop outside Rylstone Gardens we entered a stretch of woodland and landslip above Luccombe Chine that is now closed. The undulating path enters an area known as Bonchurch Landslip which happened in 1810.
We arrived in Ventnor at lunch time and managed to find a bench on the promenade to eat our lunch.

'A' party walk!
The next part of the walk continued through Steephill Cove a beautiful little cove with no road access but full of people eating at the pubs and restaurants.
Then up the hill and away from the coast to St Lawrence which we saw a little more of than we should have before reaching the top of the cliffs with views of St Catherine's lighthouse below.
fine walk along the cliff top then to the view point over Blackgang Chine and the bus back to Newport.
Another varied day with fine weather and a meal in Wetherspoons to finish with. So far so good.
